Pindi Payaru Thoran ( Plantain Stem Thoran)

Ingredients needed for Pindi payaru Thoran:
1 small piece Vazhapindi ( to get about 2 cups of chopped vegetable)
1 cup Vanpayaru ( Red Gram / Karamani payaru) (boiled separately)
1 cup grated coconut
4 flakes garlic
4 green chillies
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
Salt to taste
2 tbsps coconut oil
1/2 tsp mustard
1/2 tsp Black gram dal ( broken )

How to prepare vazhappindi payaru Thoran:
Clean the plantain stem by removing the outer layers. Cut into thin rounds and then chop them into very small pieces.
You get strings like fibre from the stem. Remove the extra fibre and put them into water as soon as you cut them. Else they will change colour.
Crush grated coconut, garlic, green chillies, salt and cumin seeds, just one round in the mixer should be enough.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and Black gram dal.
As soon as the mustard splutters add the chopped vegetable and the crushed coconut paste mixed well. Stir till they blend well, simmer till the vegetables are done.
Add the boiled vanpayaru and mix well. Cover and simmer for a minute or two. Remove from fire.
