Drumstick Stew / Drumstick Paal Moilee ( Kerala Style )

Ingredients needed for Drumstick Stew:
1 cup cut drumsticks about 11/2" long pieces
1 cup - small onions ( sliced)
2 cups grated coconut
4 green chillies ( slit )
1/2 tsp cumin seeds powder
2 spoons oil
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste

How to prepare Drumstick Stew:
Extract coconut milk from the coconut about 1/2 cup of the first milk. After straining for the first milk add 2 cups of water to the remainder and add blend it in the blender. Strain for the second milk. Keep it aside.
Heat oil a frying pan, add onion pieces, saute for minute. Then add chilli powder, turmeric powder and cumin seeds powder and curry leaves.
Fry for a minute, then add the second coconut milk and the drumstick pieces with salt to taste. When done, simmer and add the first coconut milk. Remove from fire when it is about to boil.

Points and Note:
If you like a thicker gravy grind some of the remaining coconut to a fine smooth paste and add it when you add the first milk.
There is another method to this. You can cook vegetables, onions and masalas together with the second coconut milk, then add the first milk. When the gravy is done temper the gravy with a little oil, chopped small onions and curry leaves. Pour over the curry. You can reduce the amount of oil if you cook by this method.
