Sukhiyans, a typical and traditional Kerala Sweet
Ingredients needed for the traditional Kerala Sweet Sukhiyan
1 cup Roasted Green Gram
250 grams Jaggery
1 cup freshly grated coconut
1 dst sp sugar
1 tsp frozen ghee
Cardamom as per taste
1/4 cup maida
1/4 cup rice flour
1/2 tsp frozen ghee
Water as needed
Salt to taste
How to prepare a traditional Kerala Sweet Sukhiyan?
For the filling
Add about three and a half cups of water to the roasted Green gram and cook till the gram gets tender. The Green gram should not get very soft and mashed up.
Melt jaggery. Once the jaggery starts boiling add the grated coconut and mix well. Mix the cooked gram to this and mix well. Whe these combine together add the sugar and the 1 tsp ghee. As it gets thicker add the cardamom powder and mix well. Shape in to balls when the mix is quite hot.
For the batter
Mix rice flour and the maida together and add the half tsp frozen ghee. Combine ghee and the flours well together.dd enough water to get a thick batter.
The green gram balls should be dipped in this batter and then deep fried in oil to a golden colour. While frying pour ladleful hot oil over the frying sukhiyan balls, you will get crispy sukhiyans.
