Recipe for the tasty and slurpy Lemon Rasam



Rasams are a tasty and soupy  side dish, you can have it with your rice  and eat  or just drink it like a soup. There are many varieties of rasams, like, Dhal Rasam, Tomato Rasam, Pepper Rasam, Garlic rasam, Jeera Rasam and so on.  This is one such, Lemon Rasam. Make it and drink it on a cool wintry evening  or when you have a cold and just see the result.


Ingredients needed for Lemon rasam
1 cup tur dal cooked  soft
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 cup chopped tomatoes
1 tsp finely chopped ginger
3 green chillies
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
Asafoetida powder
1 tbsp fresh ground pepper corns
1 tbsp fresh ground jeera
chopped coriander, curry leaves
1 medium sized lemon

How to prepare Lemon Rasam
Blend the cooked tur  dhal with 4 or 4½ cups of water.
Add  a cup of chopped tomatoes, 2tsps  of finely chopped ginger, 1sp turmeric powder and 3 slit green chillies.
Add enough salt and mix well and bring it to boil.
Heat a kadai and pour 1 tbsp ghee / oil.
Splutter mustard seeds and reduce the fire and add one tsp asafoetida powder, 1tbsp coarsely ground pepper and 1sp coarsely ground cumin powder and fry for a few seconds.
Add to the boiling rasam and simmer for a few minutes.
Remove from fire. After 20 minutes add 1tbsp chopped coriander, one spring curry leaves and juice of a big lemon.
Cover with lid and keep aside for at least half an hour.
