Ingredients needed for Kathrikka Gothsu
2 cups chopped Brinjals
gooseberry sized ball of Tamarind
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
8 red chillies
3/4 tsp mustard seeds
a pinch of asafoetida
Salt to taste
Coconut oil as needed
1 small piece jaggery
How to prepare Kathrikkai / Brinjal Gothsu
Heat oil in a frypan, splutter mustard seeds and broken bits of red chillies.
When the chillies turn darker add tamarind water and bring it to boil.
Add turmeric powder and salt to taste.
When the water starts boiling add brinjal pieces, cook till they are tender.
Slightly mash the pieces with the back of the spoon. Sprinkle asafoetida, pinched curry leaves and powdered jaggery. Mix well.
Serve hot as a side dish with Rice as well as Chappathies.
