Papaya & Green gram Thoran

Ingredients:
1/4 cup whole green gram
2 cups grated unripe papaya ( raw and green coloured it should be )
1 cup grated coconut
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
4 flakes small onions
2 flakes garlic
4 green chillies
Salt to taste
2 tbsps coconut oil
1/2 tsp mustard
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
2 stalks curry leaves

Method:
Boil whole Green gram separately. Keep aside.
Grind coconut, turmeric powder, small onions, garlic, green chillies and salt to taste to a coarse. Just a run in the mixer is enough. Do not add water.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and cumin. When they splutter add curry leaves and the crushed paste and mix well for a minute or two.
Add boiled green gram, mix well. then add the grated papaya to this pan, mix well and then cover. Simmer till they vegetables are done.

Notes:
These Thorans are called Poriyal in Tamil and Sabji or Bhaji in hindi . These can be served with either chappathies, phulkas or hot, steaming plain rice and curry as a side dish.
Papayas are known to be very good for the Diabetics and other sick patients, as they have vitamins and minerals present in them
